Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy jokes he was tired after playing whole of Community Shield win over Chelsea
Left-back played the whole 90 minutes as Pep Guardiola's side gave the Blues a lesson in keep ball in the season's curtain-raiser at Wembley
BENJAMIN MENDY has jokingly claimed that playing the whole 90 minutes of Manchester City’s Community Shield win over Chelsea was tough on his body.
The left-back endured an injury-plagued season during his first year at the Etihad following a £50million move from Monaco.
But Mendy looks set to play an important role for Pep Guardiola’s men this term after starring in the 2-0 at Wembley on Sunday.
The Frenchman was impressive as he charged up and down the left flank, giving Chelsea’s players little time on the ball.
He also celebrated wildly with the World Cup trophy, after playing 41 minutes during the tournament, but missing out on the final squad as Les Bleus won 4-2.
And after playing so little in his first season, Mendy joked that he had forgotten what it was like to play an entire game.

He tweeted: “Damn playing 90 mins to win a trophy is too much bro, I forgot what it was like.
“But in the end #AndAnotherOne #CommunityShark #WeKeepEating #YouKeepTweeting.”
Mendy’s latest triumph means he has now won an incredible four trophies in 2018 – despite playing only eight games.
He landed the Carabao Cup in February before helping City capture the Premier League title in May.
And despite spending most of the season on the sideline, Mendy was still called up to Didier Deschamps' squad.
