The Boro-born striker has returned to his hometown on a season-long loan from the Hammers.

Hugill, 26, arrives with a proven pedigree in the Championship.

He carved out a fine reputation for himself in the second tier during his time at Preston.

And his 30 goals in 81 starts for the Deepdale outfit earned him a £9m move to the Premier League with West Ham in January.

However, he struggled to break into the side at the London Stadium - making just three appearances - and will be hoping to recapture his goalscoring form back on Teesside.

Hugill passed a medical today and met his new team-mates after finalising the deal.

He will train with Tony Pulis' squad for the first time tomorrow and will be available for Boro's home clash with Birmingham City on Saturday.
