Pogba was made skipper for the night by Jose Mourinho and gave United their fastest start to a Premier League season with a third-minute penalty.

And afterwards he admitted: “I want to win the Premier League and the  Champions League.

“The World Cup is history. I am someone who likes challenges.

“You have to keep trying to improve. I am 25 and I want to win trophies.”

Mourinho said: “Paul was fantastic, his contribution was amazing but the fuel was disappearing. We were in trouble.

“It’s a good way to start the Premier League. A good match. A match where I needed six changes not three.

“I want to play Anthony Martial but I can’t, Pogba can’t play 90 minutes, Fred the same. I need more changes.

“It was not easy to manage the game from the touchline.

“But I told the players we had good periods, lots of glimpses of the type of football we wanted to play.

“Martial in the last 20 minutes could have given us the second goal but I couldn’t make that change.

“The players gave everything, they gave what they had. Everybody did that.

“Leicester were strong in periods but we coped with that as a team. We played as a team.”

The penalty was awarded after just 77  seconds after Alexis  Sanchez’s shot hit Daniel Amartey’s arm.

Pogba and Sanchez were caught on camera exchanging words before the Frenchman shuffled up to take the spot-kick.

He said: “We don’t really have a designated taker, it’s how we feel.

“I was one of the names but maybe next game I can leave it to Alexis.

“It’s my style, I know it’s long and can distract the keeper and that’s how I take it.”

Luke Shaw scored his first-ever goal before Jamie Vardy’s injury-time header for Leicester.

Shaw’s first touch was not the best but he buried his 83rd-minute shot to leave him beaming — and even Jose smiling.

Mourinho, who has  publicly criticised Shaw in the past, said: “I am very pleased for Luke.

“He made one mistake in 90 minutes, he was very good defensively. He had a good pre-season.”

Mourinho appeared upbeat before the match and admitted: “I was  smiling because we took one hour from our hotel to the stadium.

“We were informed of no more police escorts, so now we have to be ready for more of this and try and leave the hotel two hours before the match so we are on time."
