MANCHESTER UNITED striker James Wilson has signed for Aberdeen on a season-long loan.

Wilson, 22, was once tipped to be the next big thing at Old Trafford but is now set to embark on his fourth loan spell away from the club.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2014, Wilson's stock has cooled and he's spent time at Brighton, Derby and Sheffield United.

The one-cap England Under-21 star scored twice on his Premier League debut against Hull in 2014 - then aged just 18.

Wilson went on to appear 17 times in Louis van Gaal's first season at Old Trafford, before penning a four-year contract.

However, he played just once in the 2015-16 season before being shipped to then-Championship side Brighton, where he scored five times in 25 games.

A loan spell to Derby followed in 2016-17, playing just four goalless games, before netting once in two games for Sheffield United last season.

Now Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen have come knocking as they look to replace Adam Rooney - their top scorer in the past four seasons - who's joined Salford City.

In a statement, Manchester United wrote: "Everybody at United would like to wish Willo the best of luck!"

Wilson had played just 45 minutes under Jose Mourinho - in a friendly against Wigan in 2016 - before cutting him from the squad.
