And the Reds man said: “I’ve heard so much about the unique and extraordinary atmosphere at Celtic Park and I can’t wait to get there.

The Liverpool midfielder played alongside Petrov at Aston Villa between 2008 and 2010.

Rodgers will have Shay Given, Henrik Larsson, Robbie Keane and Gareth Barry.

On paper, it appears a very strong squad for Petrov and Rodgers but of course the result will not be the main concern.

Money raised from the match will be split evenly between the Celtic FC Foundation, the James Milner Foundation and the Stiliyan Petrov Foundation.

It promises to be a fantastic afternoon at Celtic Park, , and Petrov is certainly looking forward to the game and taking on his former team-mate.

Petrov said: “James hasn’t experienced the magic of the Celtic support at Paradise and I’ve told him he’s in for a day he will never forget.

“I’m working hard to pull together a winning squad and, with Henrik and Lubo already on board, I’m off to a flyer! Let’s just say I’m quietly confident!”

Petrov was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March 2012 and he retired in May of the following year.
