Derby ace David Nugent wanted by Bolton in ambitious loan move to help Championship survival bid

Frank Lampard has a new-look Rams attack which may not include 33-year-old Nugent

BOLTON boss Phil Parkinson is making an ambitious bid to sign David Nugent on loan from Derby County.

Parkinson is in talks with the Rams about a deal for Nugent whose place is at risk in Frank Lampard’s new-look attack.

Nugent is on a big salary and Bolton would only be able to pay around half of those wages for the season.

Wanderers have made a dream start but Parkinson knows he needs more to sustain it and Nugent’s great record at Championship level makes him his first choice.

Nugent scored the Rams' only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Millwall on Saturday.

Last season, he scored nine in 39 appearances for Derby but failed to get on the score sheet in the play-offs.

But Lampard has brought in attackers Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich and Jack Marriott from Peterborough.

Bolton, meanwhile, would be Nugent's eighth club of his career.

He joined Derby in January 2017 from Middlesbrough and has scored 16 goals league goals in 41 appearances.

Bolton are currently sixth in the Championship after getting seven points from their first three games.
