Thierry Henry lies in wait as Gus Poyet showdown talks with Bordeaux last less than 10 minutes

Bordeaux are yet to confirm whether or not the former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder has been sacked after his outburst over the sale of a player

THIERRY HENRY has taken a step closer towards being named as Bordeaux manager — as Gus Poyet held a 10-minute meeting with the club ahead of his likely dismissal.

The Uruguayan was suspended for a week by president Stephane Martin and mentioned "formalities" as he left the training centre, according to AFP.

Poyet was "temporarily dismissed" for a week by Girondins after an epic press conference rant over the sale of Gaetan Laborde just hours before a crucial Europa League qualifier.

The 50-year-old claimed that the player was sold behind his back to Montpellier — and had planned to play the tie with him in the squad.

Former Arsenal striker Henry is the favourite to replace Poyet, with the Belgium assistant keen to fly solo as a manager.

The Gunners legend had been linked to replace Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, but he kept his job.

Thierry Henry ‘accepts’ manager role with Ligue 1 Bordeaux amid controversy with manager Gus Poyet

Henry called an end to his time as a football pundit over the summer as he quit Sky Sports to focus on his post-playing career.

Other names such as Jurgen Kinsmann, Remi Garde, Laurent Blanc and Michael Laudrup have been on Bordeaux's shortlist.

The Ligue 1 club's president Martin had left the door open for a resolution with Poyet, but the moment for that appears to have passed.

Former Sunderland and Brighton boss Poyet took over at Bordeaux in January.
