HE helps drive Tottenham forward on the pitch but life in the fast lane has not always been as straight forward off it for Dele Alli.

The England and Spurs midfield maestro was seen cruising around town in a Bentley Continental GT Supersports prior to this Summer’s World Cup.

But matters behind the wheel started off on a much bumpier road as the young trickster, then still a MK Dons player, failed his driving test first up.

Thankfully, Dele was able to turn to to help him get back on track.

And the added bonus was that we were all given access to not one, but two videos

It's a far cry from the confident player of 2018 who has us all bamboozled by his goal celebrations.

According to the driveJohnson’s website, ‘fast passes are a speciality of ours.’

Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp also came through their ranks and passed in under 20 hours, while a number of MK Don’s academy use their services.

Nippy Dele took things to another level though, needing just six hours across two days - and doing things with an injured foot.

He had already had previous lessons elsewhere prior his first test, although that didn’t seem to help matters as he failed with ten minors and one serious.

And it appeared that his characteristic self-belief was what had held him back.

Anthony Johnson, instructor and owner of driveJohnson’s, said: “Every pupil is different, so as an instructor you have to be tactful and bear in mind whatever you say before the driving test could affect the pupil’s mental approach going into the test.

“Dele wasn’t short of confidence, so being direct and straight to the point about his weaknesses was the best way of getting him to produce an excellent drive.”

Taking him under his wing - and out in the car for six hours, Anthony ran through both practical and theory matters with Dele.

That included getting him to flip open the bonnet to run through matters with the engine and also practise the dreaded manoeuvres such as reverse around the corner.

And then it was a case of waving Dele off and keeping everything crossed the promising young MK Dons man would come back with a pass.

That he did, impressively notching up just one minor to well as he got to throw away those learners plates.

And in return, Dele was not short of praise for the driving school that had helped get him out on the road.

In his testimonial he wrote: "Anthony's teaching was next level to anything I experienced before. Thanks."
