THE new season has only just begun but Manchester United midfielder Fred believes his side can kiss goodbye to their title challenge if they lose to Tottenham on Monday.
Jose Mourinho’s United find themselves ninth in the table after two games following a mixed start to the season.
They opened the campaign with victory over Leicester but then were brought crashing back down to earth after a 3-2 defeat to Brighton.
That led to plenty of questions about the squad and manager with captain Paul Pogba admitting their attitude had been wrong.
Despite their stadium troubles and no summer transfer arrivals, Spurs can instead boast a perfect record so far, beating both Fulham and Newcastle.
They were dealt a blow on Friday with the news captain Hugo Lloris had been charged with drink-driving.
But the North London club will still travel to Old Trafford for the 190th meeting between the two sides with plenty of confidence given their recent form.
And Fred knows his side can’t afford to lose anymore ground on the early pace setters, with rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea also two victories from two.
He told Sky Sports: "We know Tottenham are a great team but we need to get the win if we are to aspire to win the league it's a very important game.
"The Premier League is a great league and there are a lot of great teams and Brighton were better than United.
"Going into the next game we want to be focused and we want to win so we can stay in the race for the title."
