Burnley vs Olympiakos: Tensions will be high for return tie after fiery Europa League encounter
The referee failed to award two first-half penalties to the home side during 3-1 victory over Clarets
TENSIONS will be high for the return leg of Burnley’s European tie with Olympiakos after a combative first-leg.
Sean Dyche’s Clarets went down 3-1 in Greece on Thursday, leaving a mountain to climb if they want to reach the group stages of the Europa League.
The Burnley boss was incensed with the conduct of the home side’s players and officials, and accused them afterwards of influencing decisions.
He said: “Things changed in the second half. I'm just giving the facts as I saw them, not an opinion.”
The match was level at 1-1 at half-time, with the home side angered they had been turned down two first-half penalties by referee Slavko Vincic.
Andreas Bouchalakis and Kostas Fortounis confirmed the win for Olympiakos after the break either side of a red card for Burnley player Ben Gibson.
Olympiakos manager Pedro Martins insisted his team acted with "dignity".
But tensions will be high for the return leg on Thursday at Turf Moor - particularly with off-field incidents also causing concern.
