Manchester United legend Gary Neville rips into Jose Mourinho for failing to settle on best XI after shock 3-0 defeat to Spurs
GARY NEVILLE has roasted Jose Mourinho for not settling on his best XI after Manchester United's humiliating 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
The former Old Trafford defender, 43, called on the Portuguese to start sticking with some players after an overhauled United defence were picked apart by plucky Spurs.
Neville, given his soapbox of Monday Night Football, was happy to lay into the manager over his lack of consistency — comparing United to a "pinball machine."
A back four of Ashley Young, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw started the 3-2 defeat at Brighton, before Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were drafted in last night.
But against Spurs, Jones lost Kane off a corner for 1-0, before Ander Herrera had a hair-brained moment to keep everyone onside for 2-0, then Smalling put in a pathetic slide tackle on Lucas Moura, who made it 3-0.
He said: "This is the biggest challenge Jose Mourinho has faced.

"He has got to come out of it because I have to say I look at the squad and the team and I'm not sure what the best XI is.
"He is going to have to back certain players and just stick with it because at the moment they are changing every game.
"The buck stops with the manager, it always does and it has to. At the moment there doesn't look to be a balanced outfit there at all.
"We've not seen a pragmatic United team in the big games for a long time.
"I've been saying the same thing for 14 months now.
"Tottenham away last year, Arsenal away last year, City at home, so many games now we've seen where United have been open.
"I looked at the first five minutes, and I thought 'what the hell is this?' It was like a pinball machine. You couldn't work out where people were playing."
Meanwhile fellow Monday Night Football pundit and defensive legend Jamie Carragher laid into Victor Lindelof, claiming he is "not good enough" for United's standards.
The former Liverpool defender said: "I actually feel a bit sorry for him [Lindelof], he should not be playing at this level.
"Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have been playing for a long time, and it [the mistakes] shouldn't be happening at this level."
