EX-MANCHESTER UNITED playmaker Shinji Kagawa is on the verge of joining Sevilla from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

Kagawa spent two years at Old Trafford, but only managed 38 Premier League appearances in that time and consequently returned to Dortmund in August 2014.

reports that the 29-year-old's four-year spell back in the Bundesliga is drawing to a close - with a move to the La Liga outfit imminent.

Despite only extending his contract with Dortmund until 2020 last summer, he is now set to depart.

The writing looked to be on the wall for Kagawa after he hardly featured at all during pre-season.

The Japan international found the net five times last season - assisting three more - but it's understood he's now surplus to requirements under boss Lucian Favre - with a transfer to Sevilla granted.

Marseille had also shown an interest in Kagawa earlier this summer - but a move to Pablo Machín's side appears the most likely destination at this stage.

The popular midfielder has won both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal twice during his time in Germany.

Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Paco Alcacer is set to join Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan.

The club will have the option to buy the 24-year-old for £25m at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
