Jose Mourinho gets backing of Manchester United board ‘who were impressed with first-half display against Tottenham’
MANCHESTER UNITED have no plans to sack Jose Mourinho despite the club's poor start to the season.
Mourinho is growing under increasing pressure following the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham that has left them with just three points from their opening three matches of the campaign.
Odds have tumbled on the United boss becoming the first Premier League manager to leave his post this season - while Zindene Zidane has been linked with succeeding him in charge.
But while some have been quick to write off Mourinho from succeeding, the view is not shared by the people who matter the most - the club's board.
Mourinho has hardly hidden his frustration at his bosses for failing to deliver the big money signings he wanted over the course of the summer.
Yet executive vice chairman Ed Woodward and the remainder of the United board still have total confidence in him delivering a side capable of winning trophies.
Certainly the way United went out on the front foot against Spurs, and the tempo of the play, suggested there was no problem with players not giving their all for the manager.
One of the United stars who did come out well from the game was defender Luke Shaw.
The left-back produced one of his best displays since his horror broken leg as he matched up directly against England World Cup star Kieran Trippier.
The way Mourinho was constantly in his ear with words of encouragement, and the sight of the manager praising him on the pitch at full-time, suggest the pair are now working well together.
But Shaw told MUTV: "I don’t really care about my performance, I care more about the result and the team.
“It is a sad night for us. We have just got to pick ourselves back up, keep working hard and we need to pick up points, especially after two losses.
“We need to win and win in a good way because we played really well in the first half and if we keep playing like that, and take our chances, then we will win games.”
