The Portuguese, who was watching new signing Diogo Dalot and Academy stars in action, is said to have spent 10-15 minutes chatting and laughing with a group of fans in the front row.

Alex Neild, who got a picture with Mourinho and his shirt signed, wrote on Twitter: "Just spent a good bit of time chatting with Jose, what a top bloke."

Another fan wrote: "Form (good or bad) is temporary, class is permanent."

One said: "Nice touch".

Another, James Knowles, wrote: "An absolute touch of class from Jose Mourinho just now.

"He noticed a small handful of young and disabled supporters and went over to chat to them.

"Made their night, week and quite possibly their year."

However, the news was met with scepticism by some supporters.

"Don't tell me you're falling for that," wrote one, while another said: "He has to try and win the fans over somehow".

With United having won just one of their opening three games, Mourinho has been criticised by both the media and his own fans.

Mourinho's side face Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, hoping for their first win since the opening day of the season.
