LEROY SANE’S future at Manchester City is in doubt after being axed from their squad — despite Pep Guardiola insisting there is no problem.
City ground out a win over Newcastle thanks to Kyle Walker’s first goal for the club.
Boss Guardiola said he has no issue with the German, despite a woeful display off the bench at Wolves a week ago and questions over his attitude.
Sane was left to watch from the stands as City got back to winning ways.
Guardiola said: “I took the decision for the way the opponent plays and what I saw every day. That is the reason.
“Of course, Leroy was so important for us and hopefully this season he will be.
“I have six strikers and sometimes I play with two, plus a winger and another on the bench. That’s what I decided on today.”
When pressed on if he was happy with Sane’s attitude AND his display at Molineux, he added: “Yes. Last week, for his few minutes, he tried.
“OK, he was not as precise but the players know me. Mistakes are part of the process, there’s no problem.”
Walker broke his City duck with a fizzing 30-yarder.
That clinched the points after DeAndre Yedlin cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opener.
Full-back Walker said: “I didn’t score last season so it was a nice moment for me.
“We adapted the system and that helped me to get forward.
“It was enjoyable and good to bounce back after a disappointing result against Wolves.”
Guardiola added: “Our performance was quite good, especially in the second half.
“We have ten points from 12 and I am delighted so far.”
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez insisted he saw enough to have hope for the season.
He said: “We cannot watch the table, it’s too early. The main thing is the performance.
“We were close to getting something and that has to be something for the future.”
