Gary Neville concerned for mental well being of Tottenham ace Harry Kane as he questions why Gareth Southgate included him in England squad
The Three Lions captain has played a staggering 175 games for club and country since the start of 2015
FORMER Manchester United right-back Gary Neville has criticised Gareth Southgate's inclusion of Harry Kane in the England squad.
The 43-year-old believes the Three Lions ace is in desperate need of a break, and has revealed he is concerned about the Tottenham striker's mental well being.
Kane, 25, started in the 2-1 defeat against Spain at Wembley, and came on as a second half substitute in the 1-0 win against Switzerland.
And Neville has questioned why he wasn't omitted from the squad following a gruelling four years of football for both club and country.
Speaking after the match at the King Power Stadium, the two-time Champions League winner said: "I am concerned about Harry Kane.
"Since 2015 he has played 175 matches and he's struggling. Forget the physical side, he needs a mental break as well.
"I don't think he should have been here for the two weeks. I think there is a welfare thing in terms of looking after players and he has not had enough of a break since 2015."
Kane - who netted six goals for England before the World Cup quarter-finals - seemed to run out of steam for Southgate's side in the closing stages in Russia.
Neville added: "It just seems obvious at this time, particularly with Harry.
"I do remember the last half an hour in the Colombia game and I thought he was done. He literally could not move. He needs a real break and that escape."
