Tottenham told they must fork-out £67m by Ajax to land Frenkie De Jong
Dutch kid was a summer Spurs target but they face a fight with Barcelona for the highly-rated 21-year-old
TOTTENHAM have been told to stump up £67m if they want Frenkie De Jong, but face competition from Barcelona for the Ajax star, according to reports.
Spurs who did not spend a bean in the summer have identified the youngster as they look to boost their midfield option this January.
Spanish media outlet claim the Premier League side value the 21-year-old at around £44m, but the Dutch giants want another £23m to even consider doing business.
However, Barca are also keen on the stylish Dutchman but failed to land him in the summer.
Now Barca boss Ernesto Valverde wants to add De Jong next season and will hope to persuade the Holland international to choose Catalonia over London.
Spurs may struggle to reach a deal in January as Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars is adamant De Jong will complete the Eredivisie campaign.

De Jong made his Ajax debut three years ago and has been gradually integrated into the set up making 22 appearances last season.
He was handed his international senior by coach Ronald Koeman in the 2-1 win over Peru and featured in the defeat to World champions France last Sunday.
Meanwhile, Spurs will have to do without skipper Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli against for Saturday's huge Wembley clash with Liverpool.
Alli withdrew from the England squad with a hamstring injury and is a doubt for next week's Champions League clash with Inter Milan.
