JURGEN KLOPP let rip at Xherdan Shaqiri after Liverpool’s dramatic Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea... because of a wasted free-kick.
Late goals from Emerson Palmieri and Eden Hazard saw Maurizio Sarri’s men leave Anfield with the win ahead of Saturday’s reverse Premier League battle at Stamford Bridge.
But it was Shaqiri who appeared to come under fire at the final whistle as Klopp marched over towards the Swiss winger.
Liverpool’s eccentric boss was seen shouting and gesticulating as Shaqiri tried to plead his case.
The former Stoke man appeared to have done little wrong during the 90 minutes and appeared confused as to why he was being picked out for criticism.
But Klopp later explained why Shaqiri had come under his crosshairs at the end of the match.
Jordan Henderson took a free-kick in the dying moments as Liverpool poured forward in search of an equaliser.
But his effort went sailing out of play to the disappointment of the Anfield faithful.
Klopp explained he was angry because he wanted Shaqiri to swing it in with his left foot in order to try and pick out Mo Salah.
Shaqiri instead let Henderson take it, but next time he will be sure to grab the ball himself in order to avoid another roasting in the future.
Klopp said: “I spoke up about a free kick - the last one. Mo (Salah) was wide. The whole bunch of players were where we shot the ball.
“If he could have sent Mo in one on one it might not have been not too bad. But maybe it was loud and the boys couldn’t hear me.
“It might not make much sense but what I said was about the free kick - nothing else”
