And Terry showed just how keen he was to get his first job in coaching officially underway at Villa Park... as he arrived in the dark.

Both JT and ex-Brentford boss Smith will be unveiled by Aston Villa at 4pm today.

Last week, Terry confirmed his excitement to be working with Smith, saying: "Delighted to be assisting Dean at @avfcofficial.

"Looking forward to my 1st steps into coaching and returning to a club where I have great memories."

Steve Bruce was axed as Villa boss earlier this month after leading last year's losing play-off finalists to 15th place from 12 games - with only three wins.

The Midlanders will now be hoping Smith's famously attractive style of football will reap the rewards as they attempt to turn their season around.

Along with last season's club captain Terry, Smith is expected to confirm Richard O'Kelly will stay on as his assistant.

Whatever happens, Smith is likely to quickly endear himself to fans, having followed the club since the age of just four.
