Nabil Fekir to Liverpool: The real story behind Lyon midfielder’s ‘Reds unveiling video’

An image that appeared to show Reds target Fekir being interviewed on LFCTV went viral

AN IMAGE appearing to show the unveiling of Nabil Fekir at Liverpool has proved to be a HOAX.

Lyon forward Fekir was set to make the move to Anfield in the summer after a £53million fee was agreed with the Ligue 1 club.

And an image of the 25-year-old wearing a Liverpool top while talking on LFCTV seemed to show how close the deal was to being official.

The footage included a quote at the bottom of the screen from Fekir saying: "I'm really happy to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size."

Yet all was not as it seemed.

A Twitter account with the handle posted the photo and claimed he had the full interview.

But when he posted the video later it showed that he had mocked up the photo, putting Fekir's face on another player that seemed to be Xherdan Shaqiri.

Reports in June said Fekir did conduct an interview with LFCTV — but this was not it.

The deal broke down due to concerns over the France international's fitness.

Who is Nabil Fekir? Liverpool and Chelsea target set for a move to the Premier League

Fekir had undergone a medical and agreed personal terms on a five years deal but it ended up falling through.

His absence has not affected Jurgen Klopp's team so far this season, as Liverpool are joint leaders in the Premier League alongside Chelsea and Manchester City.

Fekir has scored three goals so far this season as Lyon sit sixth in Ligue 1.
