ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil has been left devastated after a young fan died following a battle with cancer.
Gunners fan Charlie Middleton had attended the 2017 FA Cup final as a guest of Ozil as well as a Premier League clash against Sunderland.
Charlie had suffered from tumours on his brain and spine and tragically passed away aged just 12 earlier this week.
On learning the tragic news, Ozil took to Twitter to share his heartbreak.
The German wrote: "Such sad news to hear that my friend and huge @Arsenal supporter Charlie has passed away after his long battle with cancer.
"Rest in peace! We will miss you so much, Charlie."
After battling brain tumours, Charlie and his family were left crestfallen in April 2017 when they learned they'd returned.
Three aggressive tumours were found - two on the brain and one on his spine - with Charlie forced to undergo surgery and chemotherapy.
Despite the horrific process, Charlie had found some solace thanks to Arsenal - with Ozil inviting him to his box for a number of games.
At the time, the founder of My Shining Star, said: âCharlie has been invited to every home game and to Ozilâs box and he will meet the players before the game."
