QPR plan to offer experienced defender Angel Rangel a new contract until the end of the season.
Rangel, 35, has been a revelation for the Rs since joining on a short-term deal in August following his release from Swansea City.
SunSport understands both parties are keen to strike a deal in the near future, with Rangel set to continue to feature regularly under Rs boss Steve McClaren.
The ex-Swans fans' favourite, who wanted to remain in south Wales, made 374 appearances and scored 10 goals during an 11-year stay at the club.
But after failing to land a new deal, Rangel was offered a five-month contract by QPR after a successful trial.
Rangel was signed to bolster Steve McClaren’s defensive options following Darnell Furlong’s extended lay-off with a knee injury which he suffered in pre-season.
Furlong is expected to return to action next month, but SunSport has learned that Rangers want Rangel to stay in W12 until at least the end of the season.
The Spaniard, whose family are still living back in Wales, has had a huge influence in the Rs dressing room already, with his professionalism and attitude particularly impressing ex-Derby boss McClaren.
Such is the impact he has made his manager labelled him the "signing of the season" when speaking after Friday night's 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
McClaren said: "Angel Rangel must be so far the signing of the season.
"He’s 35 years old, came on trial and we signed him and he’s performed so well."

The Rs social media team jumped the gun by wishing the veteran defender a happy 36th birthday today, but the defender saw the funny side of it.
He posted on Twitter with a laughing emoji: "Thanks guys but I have a month left on my birthday! November 28!"
Then while out in London with his wife, Nikki, this afternoon he posted a picture of the pair together on Twitter with another light-hearted message, saying: "Celebrating my first birthday of the year with the one and only @MI55Y_28."
Rangers, who were rock bottom after losing their first four games, won for the fourth time in five games on Friday night as they edged past Dean Smith's men at Loftus Road.
The remarkable turnaround from McClaren's side sees them lie tenth in the Championship table and just two points shy of the play-offs.
