Kasper Schmeichel reveals ‘pride and emotion’ after Leicester win at Cardiff following death of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha
Demarai Gray hit his second goal of the season to give the Foxes all three points in their first game since the tragic death of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha
KASPER SCHMEICHEL has praised the strength and courage shown by everyone at Leicester City following the tragic death of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
After one of the hardest weeks in the Foxes' history, Claude Puel's side edged past Cardiff City thanks to a Demarai Gray second-half strike.
Schmeichel witnessed the crash outside the King Power stadium last week and had to be held back by emergency services as he tried to rush towards the burning helicopter to help rescue anyone trapped inside.
After the win in South Wales, he said:"I feel proud, it's been a really tough week for everyone.
"The way everyone at the club handles themselves is a testament to the family Vichai built.
"That took a lot, so proud of how everyone played today, how professional everyone was. It has been an emotional day and glad we got three points for him.
"You come across very few people that impact you, he had a really big impact on my life.
"You can see from the reaction that he had an impact on so many lives. I am immensely proud to have known him.
"I can't imagine what his family are going through, we did it for him and his family.
"Every single player wanted to get out there to at the funeral.
"We are glad we've come away today from a really tough game with a win we can bring to Thailand and hope we did the family proud."
The squad will travel to Thailand for Srivaddhanaprabha's funeral and head back for what will be an emotionally charged King Power stadium for next Saturday's game against Burnley.
