Ex-Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas hits out at Daniel Levy for ‘destroying everything’

The Portuguese manager slammed the Spurs board for 'not listening' prior to his White Hart Lane departure in December 2013

ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS has claimed the Tottenham board "destroyed everything we'd created" in a damning interview that will be seen as directed at the club's chairman Daniel Levy.

The Portuguese's time as manager at White Hart Lane started positively but soured before he was fired.

In total, Villas-Boas managed Spurs from August 2012 to December 2013, winning 45 of his 80 games in charge.

His most recent job was with Shanghai SIPG which came to an end in November 2017.

In an explosive interview given to Villas Boas spoke about his time at Tottenham.

He said: "The first season was magnificent in all aspects. We had a 'short' squad in terms of depth, but a great spirit and so much will."

He added: "We picked up the most points in Spurs' history with an incredible Bale who played behind Adebayor where he was free to move, but also with Lennon and Walker who allowed us to have a good counter-attacking 4-4-2."

The former Porto manager did not stop there, going on to blast the board headed by Levy for their responses to his transfer requests as well as revealing a surprise offer from overseas that he regretfully turned down.

He said: "In April, we started planning for the next season. I offered some names to buy and sell, but during the transfer window, the board didn’t listen and quickly destroyed everything we’d created.

"I got an offer from Paris Saint-Germain, who wanted me, but I said no out of love for Tottenham. Maybe that was a mistake."

These sentiments will sound familiar to Tottenham fans who have been frustrated by the lack of recent signings and the delay to their new stadium.

Spurs became the first ever Premier League team to not make a single summer signing and current boss Mauricio Pochettino's recent comments suggest things are unlikely to change soon.

Villas-Boas, 41, reportedly turned down the recent opportunity to manage Fulham, a job that has now been given to former Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri.

In the interview, he revealed that his next job would ideally be in France, Germany, Italy or Spain.

"We need as a club to try to refresh the squad to move the club on.

"We need to be careful how we manage January.

"It is not a window where you can do many things and not affect the dynamic of the team and the group.

"If you are doing well and you arrive in January, no one is going to change too much."
