MANCHESTER UNITED legend Paul Scholes says his old side were “terrible” after they scraped a past Young Boys to book their place in the Champions League knockouts.
The Red Devils went into the clash without a home goal in the competition this season.
That record looked like it would be extended after a drab affair until Marouane Fellaini’s stoppage time strike secured victory over the Swiss minnows.
It was a fair from vintage display at Old Trafford, and but for David De Gea’s heroics, could have ended in disaster for Jose Mourinho’s men.
But the result, coupled with Valencia’s loss to Juventus, ensured a spot in the last-16 with a game to spare.
However, Man United fan favourite Scholes was less than impressed after the full-time whistle.
The 44-year-old said on BT Sport: “I thought they were awful tonight.
“I thought they were terrible, second half especially.

“I think if they play against a half decent team there, they get beat tonight.
“They huffed and puffed and the quality was really lacking in every area of the pitch.

“I feel really sorry for Young Boys, I thought they were excellent second half and if they had a little bit of quality about them, they win that game.”
Fellow United legend Rio Ferdinand was alongside Scholes in the BT studios, and he agreed with his old team-mate’s damning assessment.
Ferdinand said: “The finishing was woeful at times, the decision making terrible and there was no fluidity in the way they played.
“It’s not a performance you would expect from the quality players on show today. But they got it done.”
United return to domestic action with a trip to Southampton on Saturday before Arsenal head to Old Trafford the following Wednesday.
They then welcome Fulham to the North West before finishing the group stage with a trip to Valencia.
Marouane Fellaini somehow loses his mascot in tunnel
MAROUANE FELLAINI may have scored the winner for Manchester United against Young Boys - but it was what he did in the tunnel beforehand that was even better.
The rest of his team-mates were able to walk out at Old Trafford with the Champions League mascot.
But not Marouane.
Nope, that's right - Fellaini managed to lose his mascot.
And luckily for all of us it was brilliantly captured live on camera.
