ATLETICO MADRID'S president has sparked controversy over "sexist" comments he made to a female journalist.

The incident occurred during a press conference in which Atletico chief and film producer Enrique Cerezo was quizzed over Diego Godin's contract situation.

A female reporter from Cuatro News asked: "Some say that Atleti has no money to renew, that [Antoine] Griezmann took everything. What does he say?"

Godin's contract expires at the end of the season, but Cerezo's response shocked the press conference.

He said: "I do not talk about money because it is bad manners and less with a woman."

Reaction on social media included accusations to the 70-year-old Spaniard that his comments were sexist.

When one user described the response as "cold", another replied: "More like sexist."

And Diana Kristinne insisted: "[It's] a sexist response, yes."

Sean Hartnett wrote on Twitter: "I knew Enrique Cerezo was a moron. I didn't know that he was this much of a moron. I hope he gets forced to resign. Idiotic stuff."

The incident comes a week after women's Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg was asked to twerk on stage by Martin Solveig.

The French DJ was condemned for the sexist comments with tennis star Andy Murray asking why women "have to put up with that s***".

Earlier this year, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri had to apologise to a female reporter for sexist comments he made while at Napoli.

Journalist Titi Improta asked Sarri about the difficulty of catching Italian giants Juventus.

And the coach replied: "You're a women, you're beautiful, for those two reasons I won't tell you to go f*** yourself."
