Liverpool injury crisis with Joel Matip in hospital for shoulder scan and Trent Alexander-Arnold foot scare

JOEL MATIP was sent to hospital for scans on his shoulder and Trent Alexander-Arnold hobbled off with a bad foot as Liverpool fell into an injury crisis ahead of their clash against Manchester United.

Defender Matip completed 90 minutes of the 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield that secured their spot in the Champions League last-16.

But it was a collision in the final minutes of the Champions League clash that left him writhing in pain on the pitch.

Liverpool staff decided it was best to send him to a hospital for a scan.

Although he now must seriously be considered a doubt for the meeting against Jose Mourinho's men in Merseyside on Sunday.

Klopp admitted after the game that Alexander-Arnold's knock will require further assessment and said it had been "painful".

The full-back had to be replaced by Dejan Lovren in the 90th minute.

James Milner was also forced off the pitch with cramp but otherwise appeared OK.

Asked about the injuries his players had picked up, Klopp said: "I'm not sure.

"Nobody told me anything about [Joel's] shoulder, so hopefully that's a good sign.

"Trent got a knock on his foot, we are not sure about what exactly it is. It is painful.

"Millie had cramps - I hope it was only cramp. That was it, I don't know anything else."

Joe Gomez - who has signed a new deal with the club until 2024 - will miss the festive fixtures with a leg fracture.
