Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry charged by FA for alleged misconduct over betting
The 73-year-old has been accused of placing a number of bets on matches during last season
BARRY FRY has been charged with misconduct by the FA with the Peterborough director of football being accused of placing a number of bets on matches last season.
The 73-year-old has until December 20 to respond to the charges after being found to breach FA Rules.
An FA spokesperson read: “Barry Fry, Peterborough United’s Director of Football, has been charged for misconduct in relation to betting.
“It is alleged that he placed bets on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, football matches or competitions during the 2017/18 season in breach of FA Rule E8.
“He has until 6pm on 20 December 2018 to respond to the charge.”
A rule change in August 2014 restricted anyone involved in football – from players and managers to club staff – from betting on games.
Fry has been at the club since 1996 when he became the chairman-manager at London Road after being sacked as Birmingham boss.
He left his role as boss in 2005 after the club were relegated to League Two and took up the position as director of football.
While Darragh MacAnthony succeed him as chairman in September 2006.
Meanwhile, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is facing a six-month ban should he be found guilty of breaching betting rules following an investigation to his loan move to West Brom in January.
