Ap-paul-ing

Paul Pogba does nothing to show Jose Mourinho he deserves to start against Liverpool

The French World Cup winner was recalled to the starting XI by Jose Mourinho after being benched for the last two games

PAUL POGBA once again failed to prove his worth after being recalled to the Manchester United starting XI to face Valencia.

And judging by his horrific miss from three yards out against Valencia in the first half, it's easy to understand why the Special One benched him.

And with Juventus reportedly eyeing up a January switch for the World Cup winner, Pogba was a mere passenger for the clash at the Mestalla.

Outmuscled by Geoffrey Kondogbia in the middle of the pitch and unable to deal with the skilful Daniel Parejo, the 25-year-old was nothing short of diabolical.

His performance typified everything United are known for these days: Slow, lazy and disinterested.

And it is surely only a matter of time before the few United fans that aren't fed up of his dismal displays grow tired of their record signing.

Supporters won't blame you for having bad game, but the least they expect is for you to show that you care.

Mourinho has been slated this season for his fall-outs with Pogba, but it's easy to understand his point of view when he performs like this.

He was sensational for Les Bleus in Russia as he spearheaded Didier Deschamps' side to victory, as he showed he can live up to his hefty price tag.

But for a player that boasts as much natural talent as he does, he should be dictating the game, not letting it go past him.

And who could blame Mourinho should he decide to drop Pogba for the crucial clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Reds will simply boss the midfield battle with ease should Pogba get the nod, and Jurgen Klopp starts any of his dynamic stars.

The likes of Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner or even Jordan Henderson will run rings around the £89million man.

It is a match United simply cannot afford to lose in their quest to finish in the top four.

Not only would they be 19 points behind Liverpool, but they could trail Chelsea and Arsenal by 11 points should they win.

Just like how Unai Emery has dropped Mesut Ozil for the big games, Mourinho may be left with no choice but to leave Pogba in the dugout should he wish to grind out a result.
