Napoli confirm £95m Man Utd transfer bid for Kalidou Koulibaly rejected before Jose Mourinho was sacked
27-year-old put in a stunning performance against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this month - sending United fans into frenzy to sign him
NAPOLI have confirmed they have rejected a bid of £95million from Manchester United for powerhouse defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed on Tuesday, placed the Senegalese ace at the top of his January wishlist in a bid to bolster his defence.
The centre-back has been a rock at the back for the Gli Azzuri in his time in the Naples.
The 27-year-old put in a stunning performance against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this month - sending United fans into frenzy to sign him.
Red Devil chiefs were told they would have to pay more than £90million to secure his signature.
But that huge sum of cash is seemingly not enough as President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed they have rejected a £95million offer.
Speaking at a media event held by , De Laurentiis said: "Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95 million.
"But now it's impossible that he leaves Napoli."
Koulibaly has made 131 appearances for the Serie A side since his move from Genk in 2014 - scoring eight goals for the Italian outfit.
He moved to Italy in 2012 following a successful spell in Belgium and has emerged as one of the world's top defenders.
And Chelsea have also shown interest in the defender - where he could reignite with his former boss Maurizio Sarri.
But the Italian boss has said he is a coach who cares little for the transfer market and prefers to coach his current crop of players.
De Laurentiis confirmed this.
Speaking about his current manager Carol Ancelotti, he said: "With Carlo you can sit and talk about football, he is a serene man with a thousand interests.
"One time I said to Sarri: 'Which players should we buy?' And he answered: "I don't care.""
