Solskjaer has been named as United's new interim boss until the end of the season following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Tuesday.

The Molde manager had agreed a short-term deal to give United breathing space to find a full-time successor for Mourinho next summer.

But after arriving at United's Aon Training Centre in Carrington to take training for the first time this morning, it was reported an agreement was now in place to potentially keep him at the club for the long-term.

Sky Sports News claimed United had formalised a compensation package with his Norwegian club which will potentially come into force at the end of the season.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is attempting to cover himself for the possibility of not being able to attract his main target Pochettino to the club.

United have made the Tottenham manager their top priority as they look to move on from the mess Mourinho left the club in following his departure.

The Reds are ready to break the bank and fork out £40m in order to buy him out of his existing deal with Spurs next summer.

But the North London club's chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to hold United to ransom and demand a far bigger fee for the 46-year-old.

Levy is adamant there is no release clause in Pochettino's contract, and will tell Woodward he needs to pay over the odds if he wants to get his man.

Solskjaer is taking his first training session today as he starts work with the task of uniting a fractured dressing room.

Coach Michael Carrick was forced to dress down Paul Pogba for celebrating the sacking of Mourinho in a rebuke in training this week.

SunSport has revealed how Pogba said: "He f***ed with the wrong baller" to team-mates - before Carrick rebuked him and warned him no-one was bigger than the club.
