Man Utd transfer target Diego Godin set for Atletico Madrid exit over contract dispute
The Uruguayan was close to joining in the summer - but snubbed a deadline day move
DIEGO GODIN is heading for the Atletico Madrid exit door, according to reports in Spain.
The Uruguayan captain is out of contract at the end of the season and chances of him signing a new deal are said to be slim.
Godin, 32, was close to joining Manchester United on deadline day last summer - but pulled out of a move in the 11th hour.
Jose Mourinho was believed to be furious with the decision and accused Godin of using him and the club as leverage to sign a new deal.
Godin insisted that was not true and that he wanted to stay at the club.
Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin promised the defender a new deal - with a contract extension and major payrise - in reaction to the news.
But, so far, that promised deal has not been formally offered.
now report that Godin wants out because of the lack of an offer.
The defender is said to be looking for a 'final blockbuster contract'.
Godin's sister Lucia, who is also his agent, has not heard any concrete plans about when a new deal may be offered.

Because of their own salary restrictions, Atletico will not be able to offer a deal until the summer.
Godin loves the club and would 'prioritise' staying at the Wanda Metropolitano, but may be forced to consider an exit in the summer.
He is free to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement.
Godin, who has played 364 matches for the club, helped them win the Copa del Rey in 2013 and La Liga in 2014.
He was also a part of the teams that reached Champions League finals in 2014 and 2016.
