Liverpool can’t let Man City defeat derail title bid, say Henderson and Robertson

Red's captain convinced Jurgen Klopp's men will recover after their invincible dream was shattered at the Etihad

LIVERPOOL'S beaten stars insist they will not let their dramatic defeat to Manchester City de-rail their Premier League title bid.

Jurgen Klopp's men saw their dream of becoming the 'Invincibles' ended by the champions on a pulsating night at the Etihad.

City closed to gap on the leaders to four points and - with their experience in recent years - will be confident they can make up further ground.

But Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson are both sure the Reds will hold their nerve and bounce back when they travel to Brighton next weekend.

Skipper Henderson said: “There is no need to get carried away. All season we have taken it game by game and we will do that again. It is normal to be disappointed by a defeat.

"Now it is about reaction and I am sure the lads will react in the right way. Why would you lose confidence after a game like tonight?

"It could have been different. The Premier League is a tough league, the games keep coming. We need to be ready and we will be.

"I am confident we can bounce back."

Defender Robertson believes City's joy at the final whistle was an indication of how far Liverpool have come.

But he says nothing could ever have been decided at the Etihad - even if the Reds had won and gone 12 points clear.

The Scotland international said: "You saw their reaction at the end, they are obviously delighted - but they've not won the league either tonight.

"We'll fight right to the death, we are four points clear and they've closed the gap. Now it's about how we react.

"It's a new experience for all of us but we can use it to our advantage and look forward to the games ahead."
