Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham rejects Wolves’ loan offer and will stay at Aston Villa

The big striker opting to remain at Villa Park is a huge boost for boss Dean Smith as they push for a promotion play-off spot

CHELSEA’S Tammy Abraham has turned down a loan move from Aston Villa to Wolves.

The Premier League side had tabled an £18million bid for the striker currently on loan at Villa Park.

But the 21-year-old forward looks set to remain at Villa Park until the end of the campaign - a huge boost to Villa boss Dean Smith.

Abraham is top scorer for the second city side with 16 goals this term and will spearhead their attack as Villa push for a promotion play-off spot.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to add more firepower this month to boost his attacking options in the second half of the season.

The West Midlands side have enjoyed a successful return to the top flight, but with Raul Jimenez the leading marksman with six Premier League goals a lack of firepower has been a concern.

Abraham signed a five-year contract with the Blues in 2017 after a year on loan at Bristol City.

He then went straight back out on loan to Swansea but struggled for goals in a side battling relegation, finding the net just eight times for the Welsh side.

But the forward has found his form again in the second tier and could run the risk of jumping ship mid-season and not being the main man at the Molineux for the rest of the campaign.

Smith left his top scorer out of Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Swansea and before the game insisted Abraham was better off staying at Villa Park.

He told BBC WM:"Unless they're a team in the top six, there's not many Premier League sides creating loads of chances.”
