Perisic - tied down at the San Siro until 2022 - only stayed at Inter after being persuaded to by boss Luciano Spalletti.
Speaking in November, he fuelled speculation a move to United could happen in the future after declaring it is his dream to play in England.
He said: "I have always said that [playing in the Premier League] is my dream. In football everything is possible, we will see in the future. Now, I'm focusing on Inter."
And according to via Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri may look to sell the 29-year-old in order to bring his compatriot Modric to Italy.

It is believed that a fee of £31million could be enough to prise Perisic away from Milan, dropping their valuation of their player by £17m.
Perisic has featured 23 times in all competitions this season, chipping in with just three goals and two assists as his side sit third in the table.
Tuttosport also claim that Inter are looking to fend off competition from their rivals to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
United, Juventus and AC Milan are all keen on the Serbian's services, but Lazio will demand a hefty fee considering the player is contracted in Rome until 2023.
