BUILDING work on Tottenham's new ground is unlikely to be finished this season, it has been claimed.

Spurs are desperate to move into their £1billion stadium in March in time to play the final five matches of the campaign there.

But even if they do get the go-ahead to make the switch, there are fears the actual project will still not have been completed until the summer.

Tottenham have a working schedule which is planning to see them play their first match there against Crystal Palace on March 16.

The claim even if that is the case, construction work on the 62,000-capacity venue will be far from finished.

They quote a source saying: "There are large areas that will simply not be finished in time.

"But if you can safely get fans in and out, provide toilets and food, the stadium could still host games before the end of the season, even while the finishing touches remain.

"The vast majority of the hospitality lounges are ready to go."

Spurs are confident of being in a position to confirm their March move in the coming weeks, having endured a painful six months of delays at the ground.

The club had originally planned to be in their new ground in September, but major faults in the safety system were discovered causing remedial work to be ordered.

A December move came and went, and last week Spurs announced their February fixtures would also now have to be played at Wembley because of further problems.

Until now the Premier League have been hugely supportive of the London club given the work they are doing to regenerate an area of the city.

But even their patience is wearing thin, and they are likely to order Wembley to be used for the remainder of the season if Spurs report back with any further delays.
