Hilarious Sky blunder as Wagner replacement Jan Siewart ‘spotted’ at Huddersfield game

Siewert lookalike turned out to be regular fan Martin Warhurst

CONFUSION unfolded at Huddersfield when Sky approached a man believed to be David Wagner's expected replacement Jan Siewert... only to discover it was a regular fan.

Cameras focused in on a spectator at the John Smith's Stadium during the Terriers' 3-0 defeat to champions Manchester City.

Commentators Bill Leslie and Gary Neville speculated over whether they had identified Siewert, Borussia Dortmund's U23 coach who's expected to take the reins at Huddersfield.

But the blunder was discovered when reporter Patrick Davison approached the man who said his name is John.

Eagle-eyed viewers originally identified him as John Morris, the agent of former Terriers coach Wagner.

However it was later revealed to be Wakefield-based Martin Warhurst, a chief executive for charity Martin House hospice care for children and young people.

Siewert is still expected to be named as the new boss at the John Smith's Stadium.

The 36-year-old German would face a tough task of salvaging the Yorkshire club's season as they sit rock-bottom of the Premier League table.

Defeat to City leaves Huddersfield 10 points adrift of safety after Newcastle climbed out the bottom-three with a win over Cardiff on Saturday.

And the difficulty of opposition continues, with a trip to Chelsea followed by hosting Arsenal before a crucial clash with the Toon.

Jan Siewert may actually be there on those days.
