SUNDERLAND whizkid Josh Maja could snub the Premier League for Bordeaux.

The French club have made a £3.5million move for the 20-year-old striker, despite interest in keeping him in England.

Crystal Palace, Cardiff and West Ham have been tracking Maja and Celtic were also prepared to bid.

But he looks set to be the next homegrown youngster to use a foreign club as their route to the top.

Jadon Sancho has led the way at Borussia Dortmund and Bundesliga clubs have been looking to snap up talent, including Maja.

But Bordeaux are now in pole position to land Maja, who has rejected a new contract at the Stadium Of Light.

The youngster has scored 16 goals in all competitions in League One this season following relegation.

Maja was a star of the Netflix documentary on Sunderland when they dropped out of the Championship.

He was among their young talent that offered hope during a terrible season - but keeping him at the club is proving difficult.

If he does decide to take up the option of moving to France, it would be the latest in a growing trend of young players opting to go abroad to further their careers.

Sancho is the stand-out player having forced his way into the England squad on the back of his brilliant displays at Dortmund.

Mason Mount thrived in a year on loan at Vitesse Arnheim, and has since been called up to the national squad on his return to the UK.

And Chelsea's promising youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is keen to seal a £35million move to Bayern Munich because he feels it offers him the best chance to improve as a player.
