MARCO SILVA hardly witnessed the re-birth of the Blues.
But he did see his ten-man team prove they have at least some of the right stuff he had demanded after Lucas Digne was given a straight red card.
The French full back, only on the field for a dozen minutes after taking over from injured Leighton Baines, receieved his marching orders for bringing down Adama Diakhaby when he was clean through.
Referee Stuart Atwell had no choice but to dismiss the defender but boss Silva’s players did choose to show that they had some backbone under fire.
The Portuguese made five changes from the side that twice threw away the lead at The Den in the FA Cup fourth round.
One of those left out was Idrissa Gueye, the subject of a £21.5million bid from Paris Saint-Germain.
Before kick–off Goodison officials insisted that the 29- year-old missed the trip due to a “minor injury”.
Yet he had made it clear — despite Everton’s point-blank rejection of the French club’s offer — that he wanted the glamour move.
Even without the holding midfielder who Silva claims is too important to sell, Everton got off to a dream start.
and new Terriers boss Jan Siewert to the worst possible.
Siewert, who replaced fellow German David Wagner, spent his first week in charge on a trip to Portugal working on trying to change the mind set of a team anchored to the foot of the table.
But for all his pre – debut optimism he saw Richarlison put Silva’s side into the lead within 130 seconds of his first game as a boss in England.Tom Davies, brought in to fill the Gueye
gap, skipped easily to the by – line and crossed.
Richarlison’s first strike was parried by Jonas Lossl.
Unluckily for the goalkeeper the ball flew straight back to the Brazilian and this time he made no mistake as he clipped home his 11th goal of the season.
If Silva thought that goal would a charge to victory after three league defeats in four games and that FA Cup embarrassment he was sadly mistaken.
Then again the Terriers fans who turned up for some new manager bounce were equally off the mark.
Siewert, like Jurgen Klopp lite, waid his arms around a lot and made lots of encouraging gestures.
But the side that now has only one point from eleven were flat and spiritless for most of the time until Digne left in the 77th minute.
From the free kick 20 yards out Aaron Mooy marked his first appearance in eight following knee problems with a fine free-kick.
Jordan Pickford responded in kind with his save as he forced the ball wide.
The England goalkeeper also reacted with real skill when unmarked Elias Kachunga rose to power in a header.
Huddersfield have still scored only five league goals at home this season.
And Siewert, even after one game, must know he is already on mission impossible to save them.
