MANCHESTER UNITED are considering a summer bid for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, according to reports.

United have already started work on planning for next season despite the January transfer window still being open.

And according to a player on their radar is Dutch international prospect Bergwijn.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form in the Eredivisie and earlier this season forced his way into the Holland senior squad for the first time.

And it is claimed that United's head of global scouting Marcel Bout has been monitoring his progress and recommended him for consideration to move to Old Trafford.

Bout has an extensive database of the best young players around the world, and Bergwijn has been on that since he emerged from the academy set-up at PSV.

Over the past two years he has established himself as a regular in Marc van Bommel's side, which won the Dutch league title last season.

He has been just as impressive in this campaign, scoring ten goals and creating ten more in 26 matches to help PSV open up a five-point gap at the top of the table.

But despite sending scouts to watch him on a regular basis over the past few months, United's interest is more towards putting together a £30million bid to sign him in the summer.

They have been told that PSV have no intention of letting one of their best players leave during the season.

And that has fitted in well with United's planning as the look to monitor how he performs over the next four months before deciding if they need to make a bid.

It will allow the club to concentrate on sorting out the contract situations of their current first team stars, with goalkeeper David De Gea a priority.

They are also hoping to finalise a new improved deal for Marcus Rashford despite ongoing interest from Real Madrid over a £100m bid.

Long terms deals with the pair will see them add to the five-year contract signed by Anthony Martial this week.
