Spurs were supposed to move into the £1billion Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the beginning of the season but a string of delays means they are still playing at Wembley.

But fans are hopeful they will get to see their team in action at their new home before the end of the campaign after some got a glimpse of what to expect with a 'familiarisation event' in December.

Tottenham take on Newcastle at Wembley today while the games against Leicester next Sunday and the Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund are also to be played at the national stadium.

As things stand, the North London derby with Arsenal on March 2 is scheduled to be at the new stadium but that is also expected to be moved.

Crystal Palace's visit on March 17 or Brighton's on April 6 are being lined up as potential official opening matches for Spurs.

But even they could be forced to be postponed because of Palace and Brighton's FA Cup involvement, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals scheduled for those two weekends.

And it is unlikely Tottenham would want to have the grand opening on a midweek night match, potentially leaving just the home matches against Huddersfield, West Ham and the final day clash with Everton as possibilities.

Spurs' latest stadium update was published on January 9.

It informed fans that the a number of issues had been resolved and they were now planning to arrange final testing to ensure the venue is safe and approved.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: “I should like to apologise to our fans and thank you for your continued patience.

"The response from those who attended the familiarisation event was great to hear and reinforced our commitment to deliver an exceptional matchday experience for everyone.

"We shall now seek clarity in respect of building test schedules and test event dates and provide further information on these in the next two to three weeks.”
