HOPES that Tottenham will host Arsenal in their first game at their new stadium have been dashed after it was confirmed the North London derby will be played at Wembley.
Spurs confirmed the game - scheduled for March 2 - cannot take place in the £1billion ground because safety tests will not be completed in time.
Mauricio Pochettino's side were scheduled to move into the new £1billion ground on September 15, 2018.
But a catalogue of delays has led to Spurs spending their whole season at the national stadium.
And the club confirmed on social media that the highly anticipated showdown on March 2 will also be played at Wembley.
The statement read: "We can today report that remedial works on the safety systems in the new stadium are near completion.
"And we shall then move forward to the final stages of testing the fire detection and alarm system and its integration with the other safety systems.
"The success of this testing is critical to our ability to obtain a safety certificate and open the stadium."
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: "Once again, thank you for bearing with us and for the great support we have received from so many different quarters. These next few weeks are pivotal."
Tottenham will still be holding out hope that the clash against Crystal Palace on March 17 will be played at their new ground.
