Phil Jones third star to sign new Man Utd contract since Mourinho left… with more set to commit to Solskjaer revolution
England defender has put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year deal running until the end of the 2022-23 season
PHIL JONES has become the third star to sign a new contract at Manchester United since Jose Mourinho left - with more set to follow.
The England defender, 26, has put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year deal running until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Jones joins Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay in committing his long-term future to United under interim chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And on signing the deal, Jones said: “I am delighted to have signed a new contract.
"Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club.
“I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season.
"I would like to thank Ole and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development.”
Meanwhile, Solskjaer - who's brought an air of fun and excitement back to Old Trafford - added his joy at the news.
The Norwegian said: "Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player, he has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team.
“He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club.”

And United players are now queuing up to sign new deals in the belief that Solskjaer will be made permanent manager.
The interim boss has led the Red Devils out of the gloom with a run of nine wins and a draw from his first ten games in charge.
Ander Herrera and Ashley Young are close to doing the same, while talks have opened with Marcus Rashford over a new five-year contract.
Keeper David De Gea is also ready to sign another contract.
