Southampton fans who made sick plane gestures at Cardiff supporters over Sala tragedy will be banned

SOUTHAMPTON are planning on banning the yobs who taunted Cardiff’s fans over the death of Emiliano Sala.

Sick footage has emerged of two Saints’ fans making aeroplane gestures towards rival supporters during the Bluebirds’ 2-1 win at St Mary’s on Saturday.

It was the first match since Sala’s death was confirmed following his ill-fated flight from Nantes to Cardiff.

A statement said: “Southampton Football Club can confirm that two fans were detained and had their details taken by police during our match against Cardiff City on Saturday.

“The club will continue to work with Hampshire Police to identify any individuals deemed to have made indecent gestures towards Cardiff supporters.

“Such behaviour has no place in our game and will not be tolerated at St Mary’s.

"The club will be taking an extremely firm stance against anyone involved and intends to ban those supporters identified.”

Kenneth Zohore netted a dramatic winner for Bluebirds on the south coast as Neil Warnock's jumped up to 16th in the table.

Speaking after the match, Warnock said: "We wanted to do it for Emiliano and I'm really proud the lads have done him justice."

While Sol Bamba - who also netted against Southampton - said: "It’s been a tough couple of weeks.

"I know Emiliano Sala was looking from up there so it's good to get the three points."

Sala's body was recovered from the wreckage of the light aircraft off the coast of Alderney in the English Channel earlier in the week.

Over £325,000 was raised to help continue the search for Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe among those who donated money towards the private mission.

While Cardiff fans want the club to retire a number so supporters can but tribute shirts to help raise fund for Sala's family.

His former side Nantes have retired the No 9 jersey in honour of the Argentinian striker.
