Morata risks wrath of Chelsea and Real Madrid fans after revealing he promised Simeone he would join Atletico ‘as soon as possible’
ALVARO MORATA has revealed he was a boyhood Atletico Madrid fan – and he promised Diego Simeone three years ago that he would sign for them.
The Spaniard, 26, moved to Chelsea from Real Madrid for £60m in the summer of 2017 but flopped at Stamford Bridge.
His misery in West London was finally brought to an end last month when he was shipped off to Atletico on loan.
But now he has admitted it has always been a dream for him to play for the La Liga giants – even when he was at their bitter local rivals.
And he has been plotting a move there ever since he first made contact with Simeone.
Speaking to , he revealed: “If I tell you the truth, the first contact was three-and-a-half years ago.
“I gave him my word that as soon as I was able to, I would come.
“It wasn't possible before, but it wasn't because of me.

Morata and Atletico are preparing to face the striker’s old club Juventus in the Champions League tonight.
The Spaniard is yet to get off the mark since joining Simeone’s men but would love nothing more for the special strike to come at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium later on.
Even if it comes against another club he holds dear to his heart.
Morata added: “My first goal with Atletico I couldn't not celebrate!
“My first goal in an Atletico shirt would mean a lot for me.”
