ANTHONY MARTIAL’S return to the France squad is set to cost Manchester United £8.7million.
The 23-year-old is poised to make an international comeback after Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps admitted the forward is “back at a very, very good level”.
Martial’s deal from Monaco in 2015 included an add-on triggered by 25 caps for his national team.
He needs to play 45 minutes in the game for an appearance to count and is so far on 11 before losing his place in Deschamps’ squad for the World Cup.
The France boss is now considering a recall for next month’s European Championship qualifiers against Moldova and Iceland - and Martial could hit the 25-cap mark before the end of the 2020 campaign including finals.
Deschamps has been impressed with Martial’s form under United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
During his return to form he has agreed a new contract until 2024 and then scored two goals in four games before he was injured against Paris Saint-Germain.
United medics are checking to see if he will be fit to face Liverpool at the weekend after initially being ruled out for a fortnight to three weeks with a groin problem.
Martial will trigger another £8.7million payment if he is named as a nominee for the Ballon D’Or award.
Last year the Premier League players nominated were Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Alisson, Thibaut Courtois, Roberto Firmino, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, N'Golo Kante, Hugo Lloris, Sadio Mane, Paul Pogba and Mo Salah.
