Skint Arsenal can’t afford to replace Cech so will recall on-loan keeper Martinez to be Leno’s No2

Emiliano Martinez is set to be given a shot at being Arsenal's No2 keeper next season

ARSENAL are looking at Emiliano Martinez as a cut-price No2 next season.

The Gunners keeper, on-loan at Reading, is being monitored ahead of a return to the Emirates and being part of Unai Emery’s first-team set-up.

Emery will replace Petr Cech at the end of the campaign when the Premier League legend hangs up his gloves.

And promoting Martinez, 26, will allow them to spend their budget elsewhere to strengthen Emery’s squad.

Arsenal are expected to have a budget of just £40million if they fail to get into the Champions League.

They will also lose Aaron Ramsey on a free to Juventus, with a new No2 to Bernd Leno well down the pecking order on Emery’s priorities.

Martinez has impressed at the Madejski Stadium in the last six games after his loan to the Championship and getting his chance under boss Jose Manuel Gomes following injury to Anssi Jaakkola.

The Royals, currently struggling in the Championship, have conceded seven goals in six games since he has been there - covering two clean sheets and a 4-0 drubbing at Sheffield United.

Since joining from Independiente in 2010, the Argentinian has had loan stints at Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolves and Getafe and now Reading.
