STAND-IN keeper Willy Caballero passed his Chelsea test - thanks to Spurs failing to register a single shot on target.

The 37-year-old Argentinian keeper was the beneficiary as Tottenham failed to hit the target with any effort for the first time under Mauricio Pochettino.

Cabellero got the nod to start in the 2-0 win over Spurs thanks to No1 Kepa Arrizabalaga's amazing show of defiance last Sunday.

Then, the former Man City goalie was the helpless observer on the touchline as the world's most expensive shot-stopper refused to come off in the Carabao Cup defeat.

He has since apologised and been fined a week's wages.

He took the limelight last night, though, with Kepa taking to the pitch only to help Caballero warm up.

Pedro's strike and Kieran Trippier's embarrassing own goal sealed three points for under-fire Maurizio Sarri.

It was not all smooth for Caballero however.

He was first called into action in earnest in the 27th minute when he clattered Antonio Rudiger while clearing the ball.

And near half-time he was smacked in the face by a close-range shot.

But former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes Caballero now deserves to stay in goal.

He said: "I think he [Sarri] leaves him in.

"And by the way he's a full international, he's a very good goalkeeper. He's played for Manchester City, he's played for big clubs, he won't let you down.

"Sometimes, the goalkeepers, you might say he's not had much to do. He would have marshalled that defence, with his experience, telling them where to go."
