Son Heung-min admits he asked to leave Tottenham.. but is grateful Poch did not let him go
South Korean superstar wanted a return to Germany but emerged as one of Premier League's best
SON HEUNG-MIN has admitted he asked for a move away from Tottenham — but praised Mauricio Pochettino for convincing him to stay.
Spurs' star forward has emerged as one of the Premier League's most talented players, scoring 11 goals in his last 14 appearances.
“The gaffer trusted me and I am so grateful. He made my dream come true. I am more than grateful [to him] — it is difficult to say. I have worked four years with the gaffer. It is just amazing.”
Son stepped up for Tottenham earlier this year with crucial goals to maintain a title challenge in the absence of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
But two defeats in the past week, to Burnley and then Chelsea, ended any hopes of being crowned champions.
Pochettino's side take on North London rivals Arsenal today at Wembley as they look to avoid losing a third consecutive league game for the first time since November 2012.
Son added: "The last two games weren’t what we expect but it has passed. Arsenal is important because, after two losses, we need to show our character."
The former Bayer Leverkusen man will hope he can continue the form that has seen him score in Tottenham's last four home games.
