Rodgers will look to bolster his defence with a long-term successor for 35-year-old Wes Morgan.

Boyata played in the group stage at the World Cup last summer.

Defender Filip Benkovic, on loan at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic from Leicester, is also likely to be part of Rodgers’ plans.

SunSport also understands Rodgers will be given a £200million transfer kitty for reinforcements this summer.

And the ex-Liverpool boss is ready to target the likes of £40m Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson in the rebuilding process.

However, Rodgers may have to battle both Chelsea and West ham for his signature.

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is also of interest, with Ben Chilwell wanted by Manchester City.

But Rodgers will fight to keep the likes of Harry Maguire and James Maddison at the club, with the latter eyed by Spurs as a replacement for Christian Eriksen.
